The Fund Development Audit

A Self-Assessment Process for Best Practice

Full Day

Speakers: Guy Mallabone, MA, CFRE and Nick Jaffer
Are there objective ways to measure best practice and effective progress in fund development? How can you achieve constant, incremental improvement? How can you prioritize decisions in a program? Do not miss this unique opportunity to learn how your organization can reach its potential!

Why is a Fund Development Audit Tool vital for fundraising
    performance?

The gap between the expertise of fundraising professionals and the expectations of their Board has increased substantially. The audit is a tool of reflection and strategic improvement and is based upon recognized best practice and standards of operational excellence. Its intent is to nurture exploration into better ways of going about the business of fundraising; to support constant, incremental improvement; to enable better decision-making about where to start, what priorities to address first and how best to achieve your objectives to move forward.

Seminar fee includes a copy of G. Mallabone & K. Balmer ‘The Fundraising Audit Handbook’, which is essential pre-reading for the seminar ($30 value).

Excercising Your Ask Muscle

Effective Face-to-Face Major Gift Solicitation Techniques

Half Day

    Speaker: Guy Mallabone, MA, CFRE
Knowing when and how to ask is the most essential weapon in any effective fundraiser’s arsenal. Ultimately gift fundraising means asking someone for money face to face. Not a natural thing in many ways, but if you are going to be successful in fundraising, you need to be successful in major gift solicitation. Struggling to find the best way to ask for money? Not sure how to get to the point of asking? Looking for the correct words? Participants will learn the strategic overview of major gift solicitation; review the elements that influence a decision; examine the psychology of a successful ask and the secrets to success; and have fun participating in role play.

ABC's of Prospect Research

Exploring & Implementing the Basics of Best Practice

Half Day

    Speaker: Tania Brandstrom, MA, CFRE
Do you look at the success of mega campaigns, securing multiple transformational and leadership gifts, and wonder how to achieve similar results for your organization? These organizations have two critical items in common: they have fundraising staff dedicated to asking for these gifts, and the team is supported with solid and timely prospect research.

Even for a smaller shop, implementing some basic prospect management practices can focus limited resources and make the most of the time with your donors. Together participants will explore the basics of prospect research, including an overview of research tools and practices to be applied for immediate results. Discussion also explores the changing role of prospect research: moving from a response-driven profile generator, to providing actionable intelligence throughout the development cycle.

“Guy, it was a pleasure to attend your course. It can be quite tricky to find experts who are engaging speakers and who also use adult learning approaches, but you did so effectively and seamlessly.”
